Summer Jobs for Teens and Interpreters!!!

Posted by chillygurlz on January 29, 2008

Hello all… Today topic is “Teenager’s job force and interpreters in jobs”… I will tell you my experience about my jobs during the teens. My first job was babysitting a baby from my mom’s friend at age 14. It was a fun experience for me, I enjoyed babysitting. I have babysat her for about 4 years, I still visit her today too sometimes, she is now about 11. Taking care of babies and kids is my favorite job. Other job I had was also working at a daycare with group of little babies, it was part of summer program with schools. I also loved that job too as well… If I could, I would have gone to college to take courses to work at daycare and maybe be a teacher. But it never happened. College courses would be too hard for me cuz my levels for math and reading are low. Other jobs I had, I used to work with “green team”, where you worked at parks, cleaning, picking up trash, weeding and stuff with group of teens. One time we had to work under a bridge where car traffic was, it had a lot of high grass and stickers and stuff, that was worse thing we had to do. Other job, I worked at molex company, where u assembled little parts for computer and chips. It was a okay job. Here the website to show u what I worked with. http://www.molex.com Also I did not have an interpreter at that job either and that was not good cuz I never really heard anything being said I might needed to hear. I relied on someone telling me whats going on.

About interpreters… In all those jobs, I never did have a interpreter. No, it was not easy at all, but I did my best, of course there were times I did not hear anything I needed to hear what is being said. At job interviews, I did not have a interpreter either but I would inform the boss about me being deaf so the boss is usually nice about making it easier for me to understand and it was just one on one so I was fine. Of course it helped that I was using my hearing aids. When I was younger I used to join educational talent show program for the summer. I did not have any interpreters so half of the times I missed out what was being said. I did have someone who would try help me understand what was being said or I did have note takers once a while. As I gotten older going to that program, I did eventually get a interpreter which was good. So sometimes I for some reason will go to events or some kind of lecture thing, I often forget to request for a interpreter so as a result I can’t really enjoy what going on. Now I am realizing I need to make sure I get an interpreter if I am going to any kind of lecture, my hearing aid is no more longer helping very much since I was teens.

Alright thanks for watching my vlog and feel free to leave any comments, ur experiences working with jobs for teens or about interpreters…
