Posted by chillygurlz on February 24, 2008

I found this book called “A cold snap!” by Audrey B. Baird, Illustration by Patrick O’Brien and publishing by Boyds mills press.   I thanks them for giving me permission to read this book to you all.  Reason i read this book, cuz it related to cold winter today and i like winter time.  my nick name is chilly gurlz cuz i like cold or i get cold very easy.  I enjoy reading books to kids and anyone…

 Video part 1

You all might want to turn on your heaters, so u can enjoy the story.

page 6 &7,  Caution,   put on a sweater to read this book.   don’t leave the door open.  turn up thermostat.   grab an afghan.   Words like balmy, warm, and mild won’t have a chance here.   words like nippy, crisp, and cold own this book.   cold- a shivery word.   it should be written like this  COLD  be careful using this biting word.  it could nip the nose of neighboring nouns.  turn adjectives to ice,  F R E E E E E Z E the whole page  COLD don’t touch it without mittens!

page 8&9,   Everyone talks about the weather,   A teeth-chattering october morning for putting away summer’s belongings.     Everyone in the neighborhood is out.  Seems they’re all talking about the weather.   “Gettin nippy” says mr Roxbury, waving as he passes.  “A snap to the air.” says the UPS man at the curb.   “puts roses in your cheeks.”  says Mrs. Peepshaw on her way to work.  “Need a nose muffler,”  Mr. Rimmer complains on his morning walk.     “chilly one!” calls andy inch, delivering papers.  “Need your long johns today.”  says the mail carrier, stomping his feet.    “freezing!”  barks Mr. Sook from under the hood of his car.  “cold too,”  laughs jesse Daw’s grandpa from across the street.   “Another log on the fire tonight,”  says Mr. Desmond next door.  “Another blanket on the bed, you mean,”  my dad adds, putting away the hose.   “cold air goes right through ya,” says the trash man.   “The north wind doth blow,”  mom says, covering the roses.   “wide stripes on the woolly bears this year,” says my Gram from the door.  “Bad winter ahead. Caterpillars never lie.”

page 10,  Trees and me,  Trees undress in November,  dropping their clothes where they stand.  I wonder if Mother Nature shakes her head and says,  “socks and underwear everywhere!”  like my mother does.      A cold Snap!   Naked trees shivering near the river bridge.   Chimney smoke quivering along the river ridge.  Frosty air shimmering in the river cove.  Chicken stew smelling good on the kitchen stove.

Video part 2

Page 18,  With Crackers, please,   Chili weather!   On the stove, in a pot, cooking-   not in the air, spelled like this:  C-H-I-L-L-Y.   Well, the smell of the chili is in the air,  but only because the air is… well… chilly-   as in: if it weren’t for chilly, we wouldn’t need chili.

Page 20,  Approaching storm,  December. late afternoon.  wind rising. temperature dropping.  sky turns icy, glacier-green.  wind roars in from the arctic.  Weather vane shifts, wpinning west, east, west  hurling out weather with a capital W.  Wild! Wailing! Windswept! Winter!

Page 23,  Come January…,  My feet get colder than anybody’s in the winter, I’ll bet.  How cold?  Colder than watermelon iced in the creek.  Colder than lemonade on the 4th of july.  My feet get colder than popsicles.  Actually my feet gets colder than icebergs, snowballs, and slush all put together!.  But that’s nothing compared to how cold my nose gets.

Page 25,  What Below-zero temperatures mean to me,   5 degrees below zero: wind chill temperature might be 39 degrees below.   10 degrees below zero: bigger wind chill.  Mom turns on radio in the morning for WCCO’s school closings.   I stay in bed, waiting.  Get up! My school does not close.   15 below zero, WCCO says “no morning kindergarten; several private schools closed; buses one hour late.”   Get up! my school isn’t closed.   20 below zero; cco reports many school closings (still not mine); no morning kindergarten; buses two hours late.   25 below zero; all schools close-  even mine!   I leap out of bed and telephone my friends.  no school!  P.S. it’s not fair when we get 25 below zero on a weekend.

page 28,  Hurry home 15 Below zero,  I’ve got me the chillies, The knee-knocking dillies.   I’ve goosebumps and shivers and bone-shaking quivers.   I’M stiff as a board now from toes to my eyebrow.  I’m aching and quaking so icy i’m breaking.  quick!  pile logs on the fire before i expire.

page 32,  Add it up   A soft feather quilt + a raw wintry night = sleeping, polar-bear warm

thanks for watching my vlog
