Space camp for the deaf!!!

Posted by chillygurlz on March 24, 2008

How would you like to go to space camp? would it be fun? well i had alot of fun and i went there twice. Program is about a week long camp, we usually went in the Spring.

In the year of 1998 and 1999 I and my other friends from Nebraska school for the deaf went to Huntsville, Alabama to a Space Camp program for the deaf. They provide the program for deaf kids once a year for a week.

here a link about space camp deaf program…http://www.spacecamp.com/category.php?cat=Deaf
Here are some pictures of me at Space camp…my favorite thing was doing an space walk as you can see the 4th picture on the right…

here is my story i wrote back in 1998 about my experience at Space camp…
What I did at Space Camp By Rita
On Saturday, April 4th 1997, I went to Omaha to get on a plane at 4:03P.M. We landed in Dallas at 5:50P.M. When we got off the plane. We went on the subway train. I have never been on a subway before. When we got on the train I thought it was fun. The people who went to Space Camp was a Teacher, and 3 other kids. When we were in a Dallas, Texas airport, it was huge like a mall. We left Dallas at 8:33P.M.

We landed in Huntsville, Alabama on April 5th at 11:03P.M.. It was fun flying on a plane, it was my first time. We slept in a hotel for the night. The next day April 5th, We woke up at 8:30A.M. to get ready for the day. We ate breakfast at 10:15A.M. At 11:30A.M., we went swimming till 1:45P.M.. When I went swimming I got sunburned. At 2:30 p.m.

we went to Space Camp to sign up for Space Camp. Thiokol was my team name. The word means a device that listens to you heart. Before we got to see our team, we had to go on a tour to see the place. That way we would know our way if we get lost. On the tour we went on the Space Shot. Space Shot is like how it feels to go up like a rocket. It was fun. We got to see our group at 6:00PM. I got to go on to the 1/6 chair. It is the one that you can see how high we can jump on the moon.

We went to bed at lO:OOP.M. I had a hard time sleeping because I woke up every two hours because it was very cold in the room. The bed felt like it was unbalanced. It felt hard, I didn’t like it. It didn’t feel good. I was not used to hard beds and cold rooms. The next day, April 7th, I woke up at 4:30A.M. just laying on the bed till lights were on. The lights went on at 6:45A.M. Finally I got up to get ready for the day. We went to eat breakfast at 8:00A.M. We did a lot of things everyday. Our team leaders treated us like astronauts. We had a lunch at 12:00P.M. and dinner at 6:00P.M. The food we ate was little bit gross. My favorite food at the café room was hash browns. On Wednesday we got our pictures taken for Space Camp. We went swimming on Thursday for two hours. They did two activities. One was to build a cube really fast. The other one was to show you how it felt to fall in water when you are in the water and you need to get in to the boat. We swam from 9:00 to 11:OOA.M. My favorite ride was on the MARS van. It was the simulator that will make you think you are really going to places but you are not. I loved the wild ride on the river. They have IMAX theater. It huge it is shape like earth. When you go in you feel weird. One movie was called Cosmic voyage. It was interesting.By the time you get up there you will be able to get on the rocket and go to the 9 different planets. You should not get out yet because you are not ready yet to walk on these planets. It’s a good idea to walk on these planets when you go up in space for the second time.On my mission control I was a scientist. I had to check make sure my experiments work well. It did work. My mission landed successfully. I had mission testing on April 9th. The time was 3:00P.M. I made a rocket on April 8th. I did good making the rocket. The rocket went up in the sky on April 11th, it wasn’t bad but one string broke off. It went down to fast. The muiti axis training was very fun. It spinned in many different directions. It doesn’t make you dizzy. The 5DF chair is kind of boring because it like riding in a wheel chair and you push the button.I liked the space museum because it has alot of cool stuffs. They tell you about the past, present and future. They have copy of Apollo 13 rocket. You can go in the rocket to see how it feels to be in it. On training floor I saw mission control computers, 5 big rockets for kids to practice in, 1/16 chair to see how high you can jump on the moon, 5DF chair, MARS MISSION UNIT, Mars van, The huge water tank it is 40 feet deep and it for astronauts to practice in. The training floor is only for kids and staff who ever is from space camp are allow in training floor. If public people go in the room the might go to jail or pay fme for breaking the rules.

On Friday, the 11th, we had graduation at 9:00A.M. for Space camp to ‘go one level up. We went on a plane at 2:30P.M. to 4:00P.M. to go to Dallas. We had to wait till 5:30P.M. to leave Dallas to Omaha. We arrive Omaha at 9:30P.M. We were late because of foul weather.

The End

Why going to a school for the deaf a wonderful idea?

Posted by chillygurlz on February 29, 2008

In my past vlog i did about deaf school VS public school, some people were asking me questions…  http://chillygurlz.wordpress.com/2008/02/23/differences-between-deaf-schools-and-public-schools/#comments

One person asked how i felt when Nebraska school for the deaf closed?  I felt, heart broken, lost, sad.  I was worried i won’t see my friends again.   I also was sad that Nebraska lost their own deaf school.  but at least i got to go to Iowa school for the deaf which was only 12 miles from NSD.  i did get to see my friends from NSD, at ISD but some never made it to go to ISD.

One ask, should it be a LAW that all deaf kids go to a school for the deaf?  i don’t think so because,  some kids really rather go to a public school, some deaf kids are happy being with other hearing students at school.  some deaf kids choose to not sign, they rather be oral or only use cued sign or whatever else.

Couple ask,  would my kid really benefit going to a school for the deaf?   Yes, depending on situation, my advice, if your daughter/son is struggling in mainstream school, then maybe u should check into sending her to a school for the deaf, it will really benefit her/him, with social skills, more attenion from teachers due to small size classmates.   i used to be really shy in mainstream school and had a hard time with school work. when i started deaf school in middle school, i was doing better with school work and more social and alot less shy. I also became more mature myself at deaf schools. i had more friends too. she/he will have alot of good role models at the deaf school i am sure… i know it can be hard to leave ur daughter/son in a dorm at a young age if u live far away from the deaf school. but it can be good cuz then she will have a full interaction with deaf kids too at the dorm and house parents are usually very good role models and always have something for kids to do and very helpful… so give it a try to send ur kid to a deaf school!!!

Babies, be good!!!

Posted by chillygurlz on February 6, 2008

Hello all.. I tell u about, since I was a very little kid, I always loved to find cute baby picture books and as I got older and was reading I started to read books about how to take care of babies and read books about babies in general. I love babies in general, I have a good material instinct around babies. When I got older I started babysitting a newborn from my mom’s friend, I was 14 at that time. I also volunteer at a daycare, helping with little babies. Today I still go visit the daycare to see babies whenever I visit nebraska. In high school, I choose to babysit a baby over going to the prom. To me it was more fun to babysit back then. I like babies cuz they are precious, innocent, and have soft skin, small hands, cute little feets. They have a wonderful laugh, they like ppl for who they are, they don’t really judge people. In some ways, they are pretty smart cuties. They have a cute laugh when u tickle them. I always wonder why is it sometimes sad to see them already grown up? I sometimes feel that way with the kid who I babysat 11 yrs ago, I still visit her sometimes when I am in Nebraska. Sometimes I have to remind myself, ok this kid is 11 not a baby anymore. I know we should appreciate them growing up and getting older. My body can’t have a baby because I am missing some hormones for my body. That why when I get to hold someone’s baby, I always appreciate being able to hold a baby for short time and I also go visit the daycare so I can help out with the babies. I do a little poem about baby. To those who are parents or babysitters, You can tell me your funny stories like silly mistakes u made with your baby? Like putting on diapers backwards or forgetting to warm up bottle before feeding the baby or anything like that? Its okay to make silly mistakes with ur baby, that what I learned, making mistakes sometime is what teaches you to not repeat that thing again. I would love to hear ur stories so feel free to leave comments on my vlog… I also have few pictures for you all to see too on my vlog, some is pictures of me and some is the baby, I babysat long time ago. Thank you for watching my vlog.

Growing up in Today’s world!!!

Posted by chillygurlz on February 1, 2008

Hello all… Welcome to my vlog… I have a story to tell you all… I wrote this story when I was in high school at Iowa School for the Deaf. I did win a award for writing this story…

Growing up in Today’s world

Why do I think today’s world is better? Well, in the past there was a lot more negative stuff going on. For example, there were quite a lot of wars and bad politics and president JFK was killed by a man. US was also worried about the atomic bomb back then. We also had things like child labor, which meant young children had to work to earn money for their families. Children had to work at Coal mines, factories and stuff. In the past children were not protected by law and were mistreated more often. A lot of times people ending up getting diseases and there was no cure. Capital punishment for prisoners, even if their crimes were no big deal, was more tolerated. Lower levels of education, poor health care, not enough respect for disabled people, and prejudice were all common. There were a few positive things about the past, like less crime, population, divorce, and pollution, but I think today’s world is better.

. Today is still dangerous in some ways because it seems like there are more crimes. The wars of today are more terrible because of bombings and better technology. We have had shootings in schools and a few people in the world still mistreat children, like in third world areas where there are places that lots of young kids have to work for clothes or shoes companies. There are also some prejudiced people that make fun of people who are different than they are. All of these things still happen today, but still we have some better things today than we did in the past. Yes there are alot of good postive things happened today like all the new good technology and postive things…

In the past, the deaf world was not equal with the hearing world. Hearing people did not accept deafness. In most areas, signing was not accepted because hearing people thought signing was insulting or dumb. There were no programs for deaf children in public schools before 1975. All the deaf kids did in school was sit there and learn very little. Then they would get punished for not paying attention. There were no interpreters in public schools. There were weird hearing aids that were so big it embarrassed deaf people to wear them out in public. Many jobs did not accept deaf people. In many ways the hearing people looked down on deaf people in the same way that some white people looked down on black people. There was prejudice!

Now, for example, we have the American With Disablities Act to help protect the rights of the disabled. We have child labor laws in many countries to protect children from being forced to work at a young age. We also have worked to have laws that support equality for people of all color skins.

Well since 1975 deaf culture has gotten much better treatment. There are now TTYs, video phones, pagers, sidekick, texting, closed captions, interpreters, A.D.A. laws, hearing dogs, better sign language, less prejudice, programs for deaf children in public schools. We have T.T.Y. pay phones in public, flashing lights for phones and doorbells, vibrating watches. Deaf people are allowed to have any kind of jobs that they would like to have, although Deaf people are still not allowed to fully join the Army. They but can be nurses, but that is not enough. Deaf people can still can sense shooting and do what hearing people can do in the Army. Just give deaf people a chance and we can do anything. Basically, we all deaf people can do everything but hear and that it…

The day Ares the war God came to Iowa School for the Deaf

Posted by chillygurlz on January 30, 2008

Here is my story i wrote, when I used to go to ISD.

Long time ago, Ares found a way to time travel to the future. It was to dive in specific area in the Ocean. Ares decided to dive in that specific area. As he dived into the water, WHOA he went through the tunnel of fire, BOY he sure really enjoyed the ride in the tunnel. Somehow he ended up landing in Council Bluffs, Iowa during the year of 1999. By the time he arrived, he smashed onto the land so hard that it felt like Council Bluffs had a earthquake. As he got up, he was looking around, he was centered in a city with all of the buildings, cars and people. Ares was shocked and silenced for a moment. He was amazed that the world lasted for so long. He did get nervous for the first time in his life, because he has never seen all those new buildings, cars and people. So he wandered around the city for short time just checking things out. Of course people were staring at him because he looked different.

Ares happens to come upon to Iowa School for the Deaf, he had strange feelings about that place. So he went onto the campus to check things out, He saw all of the students using their hands, but he was not sure why. As he was thinking more, he was sensing something, As you know, Xena was Ares ex-girlfriend, He sensed there was someone around that possibly be related to Xena the Warrior princess.

So he used his powers to scanned everyone’s mind from ISD campus. Finally he found someone, it was a girl name Rita B. He figured there is one guy who could help him find Rita B. He sensed this guy’s name is DR. John. So he quickly changed into his future clothes and changed himself to Rita’s father with fake proof. He went to Dr. John’s office to ask him about Rita, after John has told Ares about Rita, Ares was sure happy and left quick. He turned back to himself but still in future clothes and turned himself invisible so he could sneak into girl’s dorm.

There was one problem some of the students at the dorm have a uncanny ability of seeing spirits and invisible things. So he had to make some of those students blind for about 24 hours. Rita was in her room reading and listening to music. Ares found Rita’s room, he sneaked in and checked out the room and spied on Rita, there were few posters of pictures of Xena on the walls. So he thought, Ah Xena is Rita’s mother. What Ares does not know is, Xena is just a character and the real person is Lucy.

He planned on getting xena and Rita back together tomorrow but he will kidnap Rita tonight. For awhile Ares left the ISD campus to find Xena, He searched and did finally find Xena in San Diego, California. Finally it in the middle of night when everyone is sleeping. He happily went to get Rita to take her to San Diego, California to Lucy’s (Xena) house and left Rita on the couch at Lucy’s house.

At ISD, as it was morning, no one saw Rita come out of her room at all so the houseparents went to check her room, the alarm flashing is still going on and on. Everyone was puzzled, that so unlike of Rita, so the houseparent reported the problem to the manager of the dorm. In San Diego, as the sun rises, Rita woke up in a strange different place and was real puzzled about whereabouts she was? As she walked around checking out the place, she peeked into kitchen area of the house and saw Lucy and the baby in the kitchen. Rita quickly back up and turned around and saw Ares and screamed, then Lucy heard the noise and jumped. She put down the baby in high chair and quickly came out to the other room seeing Actor Kevin (Ares) she knows from work and a girl she does not know about. Lucy was becoming kinda defensive toward me and Kevin (Ares). Lucy said to Ares, “Kevin, who is this girl and how did u get here, I thought you were in New Zealand visiting your family?” Ares was puzzled because his name is not Kevin so he got kinda mad and told Lucy “XENA, MY NAME IS ARES NOT KEVIN”. Lucy was puzzled and yelled back at Ares, “NO MY NAME IS NOT XENA, I am Lucy and what the heck going on here?” “Explain to me who this girl is and why are u calling yourself Ares?” Rita was confused so she yelled at Ares, “how did I get here?” Ares was laughing so hard. The baby in the other room was crying cuz of all noise going on. Back at ISD, everyone is doing a major search on Rita’s whereabouts. Back at San Diego, Ares finally stopped laughing and told us what was going on, he said he thought he was giving Xena his daughter back. Lucy was puzzled and concerned. “Ok Ares, Proof to me you are really Ares.” Ares magically started a fire in Lucy’s back yard, Lucy was sure really upset about it. Lucy told Ares, OK Rita and I are in no way related and u need to return back Rita where she belongs, before there’s a manhunt for Rita. Ares was mad and at the same time blushed cuz he made a big mistake as a god himself. Ares magically fix Lucy’s backyard up back to normal. Ares decided he will be nice enough to return Rita back to ISD and reverse the time back to the day before and make sure no one had the memory of this happening. As the result, Ares went back to his time and decided to never ever time travel again after all cuz it was all too weird for him.

Summer Jobs for Teens and Interpreters!!!

Posted by chillygurlz on January 29, 2008

Hello all… Today topic is “Teenager’s job force and interpreters in jobs”… I will tell you my experience about my jobs during the teens. My first job was babysitting a baby from my mom’s friend at age 14. It was a fun experience for me, I enjoyed babysitting. I have babysat her for about 4 years, I still visit her today too sometimes, she is now about 11. Taking care of babies and kids is my favorite job. Other job I had was also working at a daycare with group of little babies, it was part of summer program with schools. I also loved that job too as well… If I could, I would have gone to college to take courses to work at daycare and maybe be a teacher. But it never happened. College courses would be too hard for me cuz my levels for math and reading are low. Other jobs I had, I used to work with “green team”, where you worked at parks, cleaning, picking up trash, weeding and stuff with group of teens. One time we had to work under a bridge where car traffic was, it had a lot of high grass and stickers and stuff, that was worse thing we had to do. Other job, I worked at molex company, where u assembled little parts for computer and chips. It was a okay job. Here the website to show u what I worked with. http://www.molex.com Also I did not have an interpreter at that job either and that was not good cuz I never really heard anything being said I might needed to hear. I relied on someone telling me whats going on.

About interpreters… In all those jobs, I never did have a interpreter. No, it was not easy at all, but I did my best, of course there were times I did not hear anything I needed to hear what is being said. At job interviews, I did not have a interpreter either but I would inform the boss about me being deaf so the boss is usually nice about making it easier for me to understand and it was just one on one so I was fine. Of course it helped that I was using my hearing aids. When I was younger I used to join educational talent show program for the summer. I did not have any interpreters so half of the times I missed out what was being said. I did have someone who would try help me understand what was being said or I did have note takers once a while. As I gotten older going to that program, I did eventually get a interpreter which was good. So sometimes I for some reason will go to events or some kind of lecture thing, I often forget to request for a interpreter so as a result I can’t really enjoy what going on. Now I am realizing I need to make sure I get an interpreter if I am going to any kind of lecture, my hearing aid is no more longer helping very much since I was teens.

Alright thanks for watching my vlog and feel free to leave any comments, ur experiences working with jobs for teens or about interpreters…

General things about Deaf related stuff!

Posted by chillygurlz on January 28, 2008

Hello all… This past weekend I had tension headache, but I am fine for now. I had a couple questions for you, for those who wear hearing aids, how long do your batteries in hearing aid last? My hearing aid batteries last me about 1 to 1 and half week. Do you deafies get phone calls from telemarketer caller like sales ppl and political calls for vote for whoever from your TTY or Video phone? I don’t get those calls from my video phone but I know my friends does on regular phone, this last weekend, he kept getting about 10 calls from same political person about same stuff in one day.

So far I have been checking out deaf read stuff, I noticed there were some people complaining about some vlogger using captioning on their videos. I am kinda like, “why complain”? Like for example, Seek Geo uses captioning for his videos for other people who don’t know sign or learning to sign. Personally, I think people should take the time to appreciate the work other vloggers have put in their work and their time to make a video and do some extra work to it. I always have appreciate all other vloggers work and their sites. I don’t understand why some people don’t take the time to realize how much work it can actually be making a video and other things like adding captions on the videos, it really take up a lot of the person’s time and work. I am very thankful for all those vloggers that are out there. I know some of those people are just jealous that those vloggers are doing a good job. I want to say, think before u speak or type, back up before u let someone’s feelings get hurt. Just appreciate other people’s work, good things will come your way if you do… Seek Geo website is very impressive to me, like he uses captions on his videos cuz he is actually thinking of other people and has the chat box that he actually uses and actually talks to the people on his website, wow, how many people do u know does that for his fans? I also appreciate other vloggers like Beth, Gary Brooks, Jon Savage, Barb, Teri, Sean Berdy, Tar, John ABC and many other vloggers. I would never want to say anything bad about anyone, that a display of jealously and low self esteem.

Story plot about “the Russell girl”

http://pressroom.hallmark.com/Current-News/Amber-Tamblyn-Stars-As-The-Russell-Girl-In-Hallmark-Hall-Of-Fame-Presentation

more about the russell girl and about the movie related to deaf, “sweet nothing in my ear” with Marlee Matlin in it… Will air on CBS channel in April.http://www.hallmark.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/article%7C10001%7C10051%7C/HallmarkSite/HallmarkHallOfFame/HHOF_TOP?landingPage=hallmarkhalloffame&hostName=www.hallmarkentertainment.comIMDB movie plot about “sweet nothing in my ear”http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1158793/

IMDB movie plot about “the russell girl”http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1097649/Last Sunday night I watched a movie called “the russell girl”. It was pretty good movie… It was mainly about forgiveness and letting go of ur past. It was a good lesson movie. There will also be a movie related to deaf on CBS, by hallmark. Title is, “sweet nothing in my ear” with Marlee Matlin in it.So it would be nice if you can step back and think about what your saying and really appreciate other vlogger/ bloggers work on their website. If you don’t like it then don’t go there. A lesson I have learn from watching the movie, “the russell girl”, if you don’t forgive or let go of your past, it can really stress u or ur family, friends, it can lead to losing ur relationships with others and depression. So basically if you let go or forgive, you will feel more happy and be more relaxed. Thanks for watching my vlog and remember, appreciate all the work other vloggers have given you and the time they took for you to do a video.

Deaf girl inspiration of Martin Luther King

Posted by chillygurlz on January 21, 2008

I have always been inspired by MLK since i was a little kid.  When i was a little kid, i had wrong ideas about how people were black, i thought it was simply they were just out in the sun all the time, so they just became very tan or something.  then i learned at age 7 or so that the black people are born black.  also when i was very young, I used to thought one of my grandma was Black because she was soo dark skinned, but no she is white.  I have always been real cool with people of any color or any differences in them, i am open mind to any kind of people,   To me, if everyone was exactly the same, if we were all white and had no differences then the world would be very boring.   So i want everyone to follow MLK dream and combine everyone of any differences.  do not look at the color or hair or body type or a disability, Look at the kind of a person she or he is first.  even a person who wears all black and looks like a Gothic person or has tattoos on them, look pass that, see what kind of person he or she is first.   Also with the deaf community, i think it time that we combine everyone and accept everyone with CI, oral, not pro ASL, PSE, SEE, hard of hearing, CODA and more so we all can learn about eachother and work together.  it makes a world a better place…

Here is my Poem about Martin Luther King…

  • Martin
  • Artistic
  • Robust
  • Talkative
  • Independent
  • Narrative
  • Loyal
  • Understanding
  • Truthful
  • Hero
  • Envision
  • Religious
  • Kind
  • Intelligent
  • Notable
  • Grand
  • Martin Luther King,
  • He had many a dream
  • He walked the life many of us didnt know
  • To make the world better, for us to grow
  • His inspiration led us many places
  • Open our minds to many faces
  • Lets all remind ourselves to open our mind
  • And to others be kind

Extra, Extra Deaf News!!!

Posted by chillygurlz on January 18, 2008

Welcome to my good morning deaf news… Keep in mind, this is all made up news, it just being funny… So u know, all of the pictures u will see is pictures of me.

Alright I showed a picture of a little girl in the sand, that girl u see, she was the one who discovered a old underground deaf town by just digging around the sand. It was at a lake at Oklahoma state lake. What she saw underground, there were designs that had sign language and a sign that said something like town of the deaf, pop 1800. So was there really a hidden underground town, ruled by deaf people? Makes me wonder? Next picture is a group of the girl who grew up and is with group of her deaf friends. They are at the lake where the hidden town was. So she and her friends got together and went to the lake to find out more about the hidden town. So far since they been checking out the lake and cracking up some ice, they have found old buildings and old cars but no bodies at all. So the deaf people who ruled that town must have packed up and left, but where? So that girl, is hoping that someday someone will show up and tell her the answers, she hopes to know the answers some day. So if there’s someone with answers, VP this number 1-800-deaf-rules…

You see the picture of the girl with a cat? That cat is a genius cat, she is a trained cat for the deaf, u know like those dogs who are trained to be dog for the deaf. This cat will let the girl know if phone rings, alarm going off, someone at the door, or if someone is calling for her. I don’t know how they trained this cat to perform all this stuff for this girl… I am impressed…

Can you spot an deaf person in a crowd?

Posted by chillygurlz on January 16, 2008

Hello all… Just so u know I just started doing transcripts to some of my older vlogs from past month… but it not all finished yet, it takes a while to do it.
Today topic is, can you spot an deaf person in a crowd? It is possible when you see them signing or using hearing aid or the way they do things when trying to talk to someone like writing on paper. There are certain ways we tend to act, we are very visual and always keep eye contact onto everything and also very facial expressive too. Also I tend to twitch my nose as a way of saying “I understand”.  Also to get someone attention I sometimes stomp the floor. What are your ways?
Embarrassing moments… When I am just coming from a hearing family, and I would go to my deaf friends house, I sometimes accidentally talk, but then of course I quickly sign. Sometimes when I am talking, I try say a word, like I would be thinking star but then when I talk, word shoe comes out, okay that’s confusing and embarrassing cuz I am trying to say something but wrong words come out. I am sure I have more embarrassing moments but can’t think of anymore.

About sign language, what is the differences between, PSE, SEE, ASL? Which is easier? To me, ASL is easier but sometimes I find it hard to know which words I can leave out while using ASL. Why are there different types of sign languages? Why not combine all the signs so it just ASL by it self? I love to sign, its soo beautiful…

How about some of those hearing people who pretend to be deaf, are they a disgrace? I would think they are a disgrace if they pretend to be deaf because it makes us deaf people look bad and it also shows that the “faker” has no respect for themself. I always wonder why do some people like to pretend to be deaf???

I just did an poll question on yahoo answers, asking ppl a question, I asked, which would they rather be, deaf or blind? Of course most of 20 people choose deaf!!! Alright here are some of good answers I got from people from yahoo answers site,

i’d choose deaf. i would miss seeing things. i love sights, colors, seeing someone smile, cloud watching, etc. besides i’m an artist, so losing my sight would pretty much lose a lot of my talent because i wouldn’t be able to see what it was that i’m doing. also, i live with noisey lil boys, to not hear them and get headaches would be a plus.

Deaf would be ok since you can still have a drivers license and be deaf… you can’t be blind and still drive…oh wait, yes you can - in Florida! You can be legally blind and still get a driver’s license!!!

deaf for sure
because: If i couldn’t see then I’d never be able to see color, peoples faces, etc…
being deaf would be much less limiting.

Probably deaf.. because then you can read lips, etc.
I might die without music though….
so when you put on your hearing aid you can hear fine?I’m guessing your just have bad hearing, not actually complete deafness .

I would rather be blind b/c I can’t live w/o music and sounds. I can imagine what things look like. I have a great imagination.

well thats not good reasoning.
because the choice should be completely blind or completely deaf.
i would choose to be blind, because i would hate the fact that i would never hear music again.which is a very powerful thing.

Blind. I need my ears to compose my music!

deaf, because i think sign language (which i’m fluent in) is a lot easier to learn than braille.

I would rather be deaf because I love looking at things, especially pretty people.

deaf because I want to see my son, but I sure will miss hearing music

You would have to be deaf to understand, term “nevermind”

Posted by chillygurlz on December 18, 2007

When i am having an conversation with a person who is hearing, if i needed them to repeat something, they would say “nevermind”, or “i’ll tell u later”. That is degrading, it makes me feel unimportant and i am sure alot of other deaf people feel the same way too…   link to the site,  http://deafness.about.com/b/2007/10/24/you-have-to-be-deaf-to-understand-never-mind.htm

Transcript:  Hello all…  its almost christmas time…  excited?  will santa come to ur house?  also i wanted to show u my Iowa school for the deaf shirt.  bobcat is the mascot for ISD.  today topic is term “nevermind”.  that the word we who are deaf, don’t like to hear from the hearing people.  when we are talking to someone who is hearing and don’t know anything about deaf.  when we ask someone to simply repeat or use paper and pen to tell us what they say.  They sudden say “oh nevermind or not important.  it makes us feel not important or they just don’t care.  most hearing people don’t realize how using term “nevermind”   makes us feel degraded, belittled.  Those hearing people should get in our “shoes” and be told nevermind all the time, and see how it feels.
